My Mind is a Stream

From my back porch
I can look up and see
Galaxies tumbling like the oak leaves
Falling from the tree to the northeast of me
Stars blurring with increased speed
Mind racing to catch a comet
To reach out and bleed infinity from my finger tips
This multicolored life spewing from my open mouth
These seconds that spin Suns across the sky
My hair catches fire and I am flying
Moving upward, lighter than the gases that swirl around my feet

Wednesday Morning Reflection

Everyone has a monster inside them
Some are just better at keeping theirs caged up
Me?
I let mine run free
I prefer the unpredictability

The things that keep us alive

Magnet hearts beating in sync
To the magnetic beat
These wires transmit love
Spreading manufactured dopamine
Machine brains living machine lives
Simulated feelings bring robotic smiles
We are curiously alive

Vacation Bible School

Shirtless sidewalk saint
Holding court
A playground messiah
Breathing smoke and small town wisdom out with each breath
These are the passing summer days
When humidity rules as king
Restlessness is a natural state
Waiting for the Air to break
The Sun to set
The Stars to start their nightly watch
The future is far and unimportant
Now is the only thing that is real
Shirtless he speaks
His audience enthralled
Dreaming of escaping their cages
Of Transforming into something bigger
Losing themselves in his World
Never noticing the clouds rolling in
Wind picking up
Scent of rain in the Air
Until it breaks and they scatter
Melting into the night
Shirtless he looks up into the Sky
Smiles and let's the rain wash away the day

Reflecting Light

What was in our hearts
Has turned to smoke
Slowly exhaled with passing days
Until there is nothing left but regrets
Fading memories of soft touches
Phantom kisses in the middle of the night

Pound Pavement

There are monsters on city streets
Eating heartfelt confessions
For midnight snacks
We are a pack of wild dogs
Shuffling corner store purchases
From one brick bound neighborhood
To the next
Dirty like the thoughts old men have
While staring through the windows
Of lingere shops
Paying off cops
Striking matches on parking meters
Lighting fires in empty ruined lots
Warming frost bitten knives
To white hot weapons
Because
There are monsters on city streets
With dreams dripping from their teeth
Hungry for the love we waste
The lust we make
Waiting for the shiver and the shake
And the blood to break

Local News

These small town beauty queens
Sitting on front steps
Smoking
Waiting for local boys
Racing down the Main Street
They smile with those sly lips
Pants hugging birthing hips
Tempting fate to change them
From shy innocence
To carnal experts
There is nothing else here
But sex and cigarettes
And the little boys in their shiny cars
Making love to their Vaseline jars
With wispy beards and nervous hands
Fumbling with boredom and the worm
Between their legs
Locked in this tiny town cage
Never dreaming of escape

Robotics and Antibiotics

Electric heart
Pushes starlight through
Your veins
Cold and burning
Frost bite on my skin
Plastic love on plastic sheets
Tired streets
Fractured nightmares colliding
With dream girls
Angels spread too thin
When you are my everything
How do I feed this nothing
That eats the world
Pocket change could buy
Me love in a paper cup
Searching for bits of you
To stick in my skin
Goddamn it
I made too many errors
And letting go was bigger
Than waiting patiently
Who has your heart now
Plugged in and beating
I am cold to the touch
And burning

Winter Is Beautiful

Manic for weeks
Positive racing thoughts
Pushing toward that depression
I feel the fall coming
Like I can smell the snow in the air
And it's a frustrating mess
That much is true
It has nothing to do with you
Or me
Just chemicals imbalanced
Out of sync
A monkey on my back
Ghosts in my head
Iced over sidewalks
Slipping
I fall

Exhausted Day Dream

I look for you
In the lyrics
To every song I hear
I pour over the pages
Of every book
Hoping for a fleeting
Glimpse of something you've
Left behind
I am hopeless
Teetering on the edge
Of a cliff
Trying to let go
Before this love pushes me
Off
And I fall
Dead weight rushing toward
The waves
Below
I look for you
But can't see past my own lies
Or the seaweed combed waves
